Chamber Mix and Mingle | Cowichan Public Art Gallery - March 06

Join us for an enchanting evening at the Cowichan Public Art Gallery, for a special Chamber Mix & Mingle event. This gathering, set for Wednesday, March 6th, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, is a fantastic opportunity for the local business community to connect, engage, and find inspiration in the world of art and culture.

Featured Exhibition: a Stitch in Time: Textile Art by Gloria S. Daly

The Cowichan Public Art Gallery is thrilled to feature the extraordinary textile art of Gloria S. Daly. Her exhibition, a Stitch in Time, presents an evocative journey through fabric, needle, and thread, exploring the rich tapestry of Japanese history and culture.

    Highlights of the Exhibition:

    • Snow Country Series - Kimono: A visual ode to the ancient Edo or Tokugawa period, where the art of Boro (reworked/repaired textiles) came to life.
    • Musashi: A quilted masterpiece offering a bird’s-bird's-eyective reminiscent of "The Ta"e of Genj,", an 1"th-century classic of Japanese literature.
    • Dialogue with History: Daly's Daly'sbridge past and present, revealing stories of the Japanese diaspora and the poignant experiences of internment during World War II in British Columbia.
    • Cultural Insights Through Textiles: The exhibition draws parallels with historic Western textile art like the Bayeaux Tapestry, emphasizing the role of art as a teaching tool across cultures and eras.
    • Contemporary Themes: Daly innovatively blends traditional quilting with 21st-century techniques, creating a platform for discussions on racism, conflict, and social issues through her art.

Refreshments: Light refreshments will be served during the event.

We look forward to welcoming you to an evening of art, history, and community connection at the Cowichan Public Art Gallery. See you there!
